Caster Semenya deserves a medal for bravery.

She was gracious after collecting the silver in the 800m at the London Games, and quick to congratulate the winner, Mariya Savinova.

What a joy it was to see her come from the back of the pack and surge forward, passing Russia' s Ekaterina Poistogova to take the silver.

What a delight it was to see her on the podium representing her country with dignity and modesty. She is a shining example of heroism and we should all stand behind her and Oscar Pistorius.

Semenya triumphed after enduring deep psychological humiliation.

It could not have been an easy matter to face the world after all she has been through. So I salute her.

We are proud of you and what you did for yourself and for your country. Go on to battle against the strong Russian contingent next year at the World Championships in Moscow. We know you can do it. We are behind you all the way.
