Unions too close to ANC: iLIVE

The Marikana incident will repeat itself as long as stakeholders refuse to recognise Amcu as a union that is intrinsic to the negotiation process ("Miners choose death over wage slavery", yesterday).

Most major unions are culturally aligned to the ANC, a tradition that was formed during the struggle against apartheid. But today the ANC is an employer. Unions are not supposed to be sleeping with the employer. The tripatite alliance is no longer relevant.

It is a disgrace that miners are still earning R4000 a month. The R12500 demand is reasonable and mine bosses can afford it.
