Alexander was simply the most beautiful human being: iLIVE
Isitya esihle asidleli: this is a Xhosa idiom used to express sincere condolences and respect to a highly regarded person who has left the world of the living.
It is an idiom reserved for people who are deeply revered in society. The reverence has nothing to do with material wealth and positions of power. The idiom is expressed to people who embodied deep values of humanity. Dr Neville Alexander was that person.
Besides his scholarly achievements, his struggle credentials and his insightful views on sociopolitical issues, Alexander was a human being who cared deeply about the plight of other people, especially the downtrodden.
His respect and love for people knew no bounds. In the hurried corridors of academia (he was attached to UCT), he would stop and look at you with the most beautiful and sincere smile, and ask in a soft voice how you and your family were doing.
In a world that has become cold and distant, his humanity shone the brightest. I will miss his sincere warmth.
Farewell noble son. You leave behind a rich legacy. It is indeed true that isitya esihle asidleli.
