Forever indebted to NUM: iLIVE

Tankiso Pitso, Carletonville | 31 August, 2012 00:08
Senzeni Zokwana, president of the National Union of Mineworkers

Had it not been for the National Union of Mineworkers, I would not be where I am today .

Financing tertiary education on a miner's salary would not have been possible for my father.

But there was this union, which has for years fought the notorious and exploitative mining industry. Through the JB Marks Education Trust Fund, NUM gave me a bursary. I have completed my BA degree in political science and industrial sociology at Wits. This year I'm pursuing a BCom honours in development theory and policy.
