Cheaper labour is the answer: iLIVE

Wilby, by e-mail | 06 September, 2012 00:15
National Union of Mineworkers general secretary Frans Balaleni, centre, president Senzeni Zokwana, left, and deputy president Piet Mathosa said yesterday that they supported the police's use of force at Marikana but were surprised that strikers had been killed Picture: MOELETSI MABE

National Union of Mine Workers president Senzeni Zokwana chose to visit the mines in Canada ("Charge Malema with violence", yesterday).

Why did he not choose China or India, who have similar problems to us, namely the demand for labour is far greater than the number of jobs?

Our population is growing at a far faster rate than the creation of jobs. Either we put a to halt our galloping population or we start competing with the East, where the labour is cheap and they have the skills and education. China is already in a position where it is outsourcing labour to Indonesia.
