Taxing anthem: iLIVE

Tony Ball, Durban | 19 September, 2012 00:10
Popcru Gauteng secretary Matsemela Matsemela yesterday slammed the circulation of a sex video involving a policewoman and a correctional services official Picture: DANIEL BORN

I have a suggestion for Afrikaners who feel aggrieved that the prisons union Popcru wants Afrikaans removed from the national anthem ("Kicking Afrikaners in teeth", yesterday). If that comes to pass, the time has come to stop paying taxes.

We are all South Africans and we all know how a measly five million taxpayers carry the onerous financial burden of the population of 49 million.

My message to Popcru is that if we are not good enough to be regarded as equal citizens, then you certainly do not need our taxes.
