The Lonmin wage deal will lead to unrealistic demands at other mines. This whole mess just confirms that, instead of peaceful negotiations, miners can use any form of violence to get what they want.

If one group can intimidate a company with such violent behaviour, what's to stop others following suit in future?

The company should have given the strikers' jobs to people who really need them. I am all for decent salaries for the work done, but there are ways to achieve this without being barbaric.
