Our children fed to wolves: iLIVE

Deborah Eid, Johannesburg | 12 October, 2012 00:13

Recent crime statistics show that 800 children a year are murdered in this country, and approximately 26000 are raped.

It is very possible, of course, that these figures have been "watered down".

However, what really amazes me is that this shocking statistic seems to have slipped under the radar. Does nobody give a damn? Have we become so hardened that this type of thing doesn't even jolt our sense of morality?

A society that murders and rapes its young has a very poor chance of rising above other evils in its midst.

The media has a social responsibility to get to the bottom of this. Who were these children? And the perpetrators?
