I AM thoroughly disappointed at the continued failure of the ANC Women's League to uplift the cause of women ("Zuma has never failed SA women", yesterday).

Their failure, once again, to recommend one of their own to a meaningful senior leadership position at the Mangaung conference is discouraging.

The league's choices for the top six positions in the ANC, suggests that, as women, they are not ready to enter the ANC presidency. We have had two women deputy presidents in the government and they did not disappoint the nation.

Does the league honestly believe that the likes of Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, Lindiwe Sisulu, Maite Nkoana-Mashabana, Naledi Pandor and others of note are not ready to ascend to the position of deputy president in 2012?

If the league does not use its convening power to exalt one of its own, our patriarchal society will continue to drag its feet. I may be a man but I do not rejoice at such regression.
