Companies will benefit from the tactless banning of adverts by the dogmatic SABC.

The fish and chips commercial that depicts a cartoon version of President Jacob Zuma and his family having dinner was not aired on SABC, apparently because it implied presidential endorsement of the product ("Fishy Zuma advert was not Zuzulicious for SABC", yesterday).

What the SABC has failed to realise is that once an advert is declared taboo, it immediately gains from the publicity.

The advert is then viewed on social networks - and the company can develop brand awareness and communicate with their target audience online .

Let's face it, if it wasn't for the canning of the advert, you and I wouldn't be entertaining this subject any further.

As for SABC and its spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago, wake up and smell something fishy in the advertising world. - Keotshepile wa Mogotsi, Kagiso

IN RESPONSE to reports of the SABC refusing to air an advert involving the president's likeness, I refer to President Jacob Zuma's own words at the launch of the Open Government Partnership in September last year.

"We pride ourselves on having freedom of expression and media freedom enshrined in the constitution," he said.

"This makes ours a vibrant democracy with a healthy exchange of ideas in society."

Would Zuma still state the same now -with corruption creeping into every level of government and the ANC adopting the secrecy bill's final draft?

And do we, the people of South Africa, feel the vibrancy of a healthy democracy and transparent leadership? These questions must be asked and answered.
