BOTH Telford Vice and Firdose Moonda call the selection of the Protea squads "shameful" ("Thami's snub still boggles", and "What will summer bring after Proteas' great run?" December 18).

Their reason is that the selectors are not picking black Africans.

I don't care who is selected (colour or creed) as long as we field the best team possible. I follow the real "test" of cricket, the five-day version, as it is the yardstick of true proficiency.

I'd like to ask your correspondents who they'd like to drop from the world's No1 Test team? Perhaps Peterson, Amla or Philander and possibly Dale Steyn for Lonwabo Tsotsobe, to add some variation.

Most definitely Tsolekile, 32, instead of 28-year-old AB de Villiers (even though they are both sound keepers and AB has a Test batting average of 49.11 versus Thami's 9.4). And consider Robin Peterson giving way to Aaron Phangiso, as it is the right thing to do.

I think The Times should think about their "shameful" cricket columnists and replace them with writers without bias or prejudice. -
