READER Thamsanqa Enoch Bam reels off the usual three Bible verses used to justify bigotry against gay people (Letters, December 18).

The Bible contains just a handful of verses about homosexuality, but has more than 300 verses about the poor, oppressed and social justice.

Leviticus 25:37, for example, says that you should not make the poor pay interest on loans, or sell food to them at a profit - I wonder if Bam would defend and promote this verse with equal passion?

MR BAM, happy, well-adjusted gay people do not seek your approval. You really are preaching to the converted - people who are denied their basic human right to love because of your doctrine of fear. Consider how many gay teenagers commit suicide because of your "counselling with love".

Sexuality is not a "folly". And love is never an "abomination'. Shame on you.
