ANC rule a recipe for chaos: iLIVE

David Shapiro's column "No winners if rot continues" (January 22) encapsulates all that is wrong in our country under ANC rule. It should be prescribed reading for all ANC politicians and supporters.

The rainbow nation is sliding inexorably towards banana republic status, while ill-educated and uncaring politicians worry more about lining their own pockets, driving around in luxury automobiles, overseas travel on the slightest pretence, dining in first-class restaurants and furnishing their homes in outrageous splendour. The welfare of the poor is of no concern to them, except at election time.

NGOs have to go to court to force the Basic Education Department to provide pupils with textbooks more than halfway through the year. But the minister of basic education inexplicably keeps her job.

Corruption and nepotism is rife, while the government fiddles, and our country burns.
