All adverts paid for by the provincial government are for the express purpose of informing citizens about the opportunities that we provide to citizens to improve their lives and, second, to encourage positive behaviour.
An example of this is the campaign run by the Western Cape education department that used radio adverts to encourage parents to register their children early for the school year because early enrolment enables proper planning and minimises the pressure on education officials and schools that comes from dealing with late enrolments.
Furthermore, there is no real comparison between the Western Cape government's communication and the New Age subsidy scandal.

The New Age got at least 25 hours of free advertising on SABC worth somewhere between R35-million and R45-million and an additional R25-million in cash from state-owned enterprises. l
