Four people have died after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned near Kimberley, police said.

Police spokesman Captain Tony Modise said the car was travelling on the Barkly West-Winsorton Road on Thursday morning when its tyre apparently burst.

"The vehicle swerved off the road and overturned."

The five occupants were flung out of the car.

A woman, aged 34, and a man, aged 23, died on the scene.

Two female passengers died on their way to hospital.

The driver, aged 22, is in a serious but stable condition in hospital. A case of culpable homicide has been opened.
