CALLING THE TUNE: Setlhabi Taunyane plays Kop Khuse on the soapie 'Rhythm City'

Setlhabi Taunyane plays Kop Khuse on e.tv's Rhythm City. His family has been experiencing financial problems, leaving Kop no choice but to leave home to fend for them.

Tell us about your role as Kop

It has been a learning curve. I've learnt to be an honest and caring homemaker. I have also learnt that a man does not have to raise his voice to be a caring father and husband, but can do so with love and care, and that's how you earn respect.

Kop has not had the easiest family on the soapie, and he's had to be strong in order to hold everything together.

My wife on set, Mamokete, has been my strongest pillar. Having a wife with such faith and understanding makes Kop feel like he can hold it together. Having her as a disciplinarian has allowed Kop to be the soft, caring one and the glue of the family.

Your character is now faced with the challenge of taking a job as a truck driver and leaving his family. What do you think about that?

It pains Kop, but he has to do it for the family's survival. As a father you never want to be away from your family, but at times you have to take certain jobs to ensure your family stays intact. This is very prevalent in South Africa.

What can we expect from Kop in the future?

Much more resilience in keeping the Khuse family together and taking great risks to ensure the family never has to live in poverty.

What can we expect from you, Sethlabi, in the near future?

Much improved acting skills.
