Designer Kanye West returning to Paris Fashion Week
After his inaugural presentation back in October, Kanye West is returning to Paris for the showcase of his Fall 2012 ready-to-wear line.
WWD reported on February 8 that the rapper-turned-designer will present his upcoming collection March 6 at 21:30. The exact location has not been yet disclosed, although the show will be outside the official calendar organised by France's Chambre Syndicale -- which will present the latest lines from labels including Stella McCartney, Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton.
Despite receiving mixed reviews, West's debut Paris show attracted big names including US Vogue editor Anna Wintour, actresses-turned-designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and Vogue Japan editor-at-large Anna Dello Russo, who was seen dressed head-to-toe in pieces from the line to attend the subsequent Alexander McQueen presentation.
While other hip-hop stars such as P.Diddy and Jay-Z's fashion ventures have tended to have a more urban focus in keeping with the traditional hip-hop aesthetic, West has always made it clear his ambitions are in high fashion.
"I've been working at this for eight years now ...from the first offers to do urban clothing lines that I turned down," recalled West during a Twitter marathon last month where he also unveiled his projects for a design company called DONDA which will "galvanise amazing thinkers", ranging from architects and clothing designers to "tech guys" and doctors.
Paris Fashion Week will run February 28 - March 7. A provisional version of the official calendar can be seen here.
