Scottish brand Lyle & Scott has finally come to South African shores, with a star-studded launch held in Johannesburg.

The label -- worn by rockers Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian and Pete Doherty -- will now be distributed in the country for the first time in its 138-year history.

The launch was held at Arts on Main in Johannesburg on Wednesday evening and was attended by personalities such as actress Rosie Motene, radio presenters and reality TV personalities Ntando and Hlelo Masina, former Miss SA Nicole Flint and Top Billing presenter Simba Mhere.

The brand has been brought to SA by Skye, which distributes Converse, Dickies and Millé to SA, amongst others.

Skye Distribution managing director, Richard Dixon, says: "With the Lyle & Scott brand, Skye is again able to offer a discernible and fashion-conscious South African market the chance to wear a top international brand renowned for its heritage, style and quality."

Lyle & Scott gained popularity among golfers, having been worn by Gary Player and Greg Norman, before attracting a younger, more hip audience in the 1980s, before falling out of favour.

In 2003 it had a reawakening of sorts when it launched its Vintage collection which features a 'Golden Eagle' logo. A standalone store was opened in London's Covent Garden in 2005, followed by the launch of the Lyle & Scott Heritage collection two years later.

2009's Club Collection saw a return to the brand's golfing roots, but with a more modern edge as the clothes aimed at "young and trendy" golfers.
