A magistrate in Italy on Friday ordered fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana to stand trial for tax evasion amounting to some 1 billion euros (1.25 billion dollars), media reported.
The Italian pair, whose brand of clothing Dolce & Gabbana is favoured by Madonna and other celebrities, were indicted on the charges along with six others, ANSA news agency reported.
Milan magistrate Giuseppe Gennari's decision followed a ruling last year by Italy's top appeals court to partially overturn another court's decision to acquit the two in a related case.
In November, the Court of Cassation upheld Dolce and Gabbana's acquittal for tax fraud but instructed magistrates to review charges of tax evasion against the two designers and their six co-accused.
No date has been set for the start of the trial.
