'The Shining' sequel to be released September 2013
Horror and thriller writer Stephen King has announced the release date for a major sequel to one of his greatest novels.
Doctor Sleep, which continues the story of The Shining's child protagonist Danny Torrance, has been announced for publication on September 24, 2013.
Torrance, now a middle-aged man, is found working in a nursing home in New Hampshire but is confronted once more by his terrifying childhood upon meeting the supernaturally gifted 12-year-old Abra Stone.
Together, they must face the True Knot, a roving band of elderly quasi-immortals who prey upon youngsters who possess the 'shining' power.
Stephen King surprised attendees of the September 2011 Fall for the Book festival with a public reading taken from Doctor Sleep, and an excerpt was included as a bonus on the audio version of 2012 novel The Wind Through The Keyhole.
