Attorney offers clients free divorce for Valentine's Day

A Michigan attorney is offering one lucky couple a special gift in celebration of Valentine’s Day: a free divorce.
Walter Bentley of Southfield, Michigan, issued an online solicitation for people to apply, and said this week that nearly 500 Michiganders had already applied. He plans to award the prize Wednesday.
“The winner will be chosen based on the most compelling and convincing story as to why they should be the winner,” he said.
Bentley said he is looking for someone “struggling to move forward” who might not have enough money to get divorced.
He said he would pay for everything including his services and paperwork costs — “all the fees and expenses” — in the legal process.
“What they’re getting would ordinarily cost them $1 500 to $3 000,” Bentley said.
