MasterChef fans dine with Benny Masekwameng and Deena Naidoo

What a treat! MasterChef fans got together and dined with Benny Masekwameng, Tsogo Sun’s celebrity chef and MasterChef South Africa judge; Deena Naidoo, the winner of MasterChef Season 1; and editor of The Sunday Times’ Food Weekly, Hilary Biller.

Executive Chef Shaun Munro of the Elangeni & Maharani presented the guests with a magnificent three course meal starting with his “Study of Salmon”, home-cured beetroot infused gravalax, lemon-peppered smoked salmon rosette
and dill scented creamed mousse with a remoulade sauce, a slow cooked rack of Karoo lamb and a sinful medley of desserts that included a wild berry pavlova, a baked pear tartlet with chocolate and a pistachio and lemon Bavarian cream.

The meal was washed down with bottles of Nederburg Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet. Chef Benny took guests through their own taste test, where they had to guess the ingredients that made up a mystery dish. The winning table got prizes that included a Le Creuset pot, weekends away from Tsogo Sun, and meals at the Elangeni&Maharani.

Spot prizes included Hilary Biller’s Food Weekly cookbook and a copy of the travel book, Wild Weekends with the Girls Gone Wild. No one went home empty handed though.

Guests were spoiled with generous goody bags from Woolworths, filled to the brim with ingredients (think chocolate, coffee, eggs, cream, sugar strawberries and much more) to create the recipe on a Woolworths MasterChef placemat. Robertson’s spices gave each guest a spice rack, spices and an apron.
