Three percent of women are hypersexual according to a recent study conducted in Germany.

The first major study on women who have sex so frequently that it affects their lives has found that three percent of women could be classified as hypersexual, reported Mail Online.

German researchers said that problems may be linked to high rates of masturbation and pornography. They recommended a larger investigation into the issue and recommended that those who have it should seek therapy.

Researchers asked almost a thousand women in Germany to answer 19 questions in a Hypersexual Behaviour Inventory questionnaire, on how often they engage in intercourse to cope with emotional problems, whether it is outside of their control and whether it interferes with their work or school. Most of the women in the sample were university students.

“The results of the current study do not support the idea of previous research that hypersexual women are typically engaged in more passive forms of sexual behaviour, and contradict the assumption that hypersexual women only use sexual behaviour to control and influence interpersonal relationships,” the authors wrote.

The study also found that most hypersexual women tend to be bisexual. The study was published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
