A Burger King in Japan has given the fast food outlet a black twist by releasing black cheeseburgers complete with black buns, black cheese and black sauce.

This first began in 2012 when they added colouring the bread with bamboo charcoal and adding squid ink to the ketchup dubbing it Premium Kuro Burger (kuro means “black”) reported the Independent.

Japanese consumers liked the charcoal adding so much, the outlet now has cheese slices as well as beef burgers made with black pepper, an onion and garlic sauce with squid ink and black bread.

The Asian country is synonymous with peculiar foods. In Japan you find the Matcha green tea ice cream bar which is not only found in the country but is also popular in other Asian countries.

Horumon is Japan’s answer to South Africa’s tripe popularly known as Mala Mogudu. Horumon is broad word meaning anything from intestines to organs and it’s blanketed as just Horumon on Japanese menus without further elaboration because only a butcher or veterinarian would recognize what it was anyway.

There are much more outrageous foods across the country- but are only outrageous to the outside world, while they are king in Japan.
