Forget the bed. South Africans love getting naked on the floor and some get their kicks steaming up a lift or the library.

These titbits were revealed in a Women's Health sex survey that polled more than 1000 readers from around the country, of whom only 6% were male.

Having sex on the floor was a firm favourite for 86%, and many reported that they had been spanked, tied up or had used handcuffs.

About half said they had given oral sex while in a moving vehicle and 37% fantasised about a same-sex experience.

But not everyone is that adventurous.

Married MTV presenter Roxy Burger considered herself the "not so Fifty Shades of Grey kind of girl".

She said: "I am so germphobic, just the thought of having sex in a toilet or a bar is off-putting.

"Can you imagine how filthy and clammy those spaces are?

"But I have once had sex in my very own garden. It was on a blanket, in case people start wondering if I had bugs crawling on me."

Craz-e presenter Lee-Roy Wright said the most adventurous place he had ever had sex was in a car. He has also been spanked by his partner.

"I'm sure many other people have tried sex in the car. Trust me, the back seat isn't always as big as you think it is. The beach has always been on the bucket list, but eish, that sand everywhere is an issue," Wright said.

"Having sex in a lift could be fun, although I am not sure how far one would go from the ground floor to the sixth floor, but, hey, there's always that emergency button. I do find the cliché of being tied up extremely sexy, so that's next for me."
