In a bar-raising move AutoTrader gives consumer’s the most comprehensive car shopping experience available

Digital automotive connector AutoTrader has developed state-of-the-art technology that brings a virtual vehicular mall to your screen via their new car search innovation. “With increased demand in shopping for cars online, we have invested millions to innovate our technology and meet the demands of this growing audience,” said AutoTrader CEO, George Mienie.

The online giant has made sure that all the relevant buying and selling information is not only available - such as price, specs, insurance options - but that it’s compelling and easily navigable. “50 percent of buyers do their research online before walking into a dealership. The car shopping process is more transparent and consumers have the tools to make informed decisions,” says Mienie.

The ability to compare cars ‘side-by-side’ is a crucial component of AutoTrader’s online overhaul. The functionality allows shoppers to easily compare different historical generations of cars – new and past models - across makes, models, variant and year. Buying and selling new cars online has become a user-friendly experience.

“Our statistics show that on average buyers spend 15 hours researching and shopping for cars online,” said Mienie. “Making the smart choice takes time. Our goal has always been to cut that time down, and make buying cars as easy as possible.”

The new offering provides consumers with easy access to the more than 7 000 new cars (alongside their existing portfolio of 58 000 used cars) with an interactive content hub delivering news and entertainment, photos and videos on the car in question. Included in the website funtionality is the abililty to further assess the smartness of the deal by using the car insurance tool and handy finance calculator.

For dealers, the new website means “access to the biggest automotive audience in SA in one place to give their cars maximum exposure, whether new or used,” says Mienie.

“With hundreds of thousands of cars having gone through our platform since 1992, our stats have given us unique insight into the South African market,” said AutoTrader Marketing Director Angie Lynch. “While used cars still make up the majority of sales, today there are over 30 000 new cars sold every month and 1 in 8 buyers on our site are already looking for a new car. Adding a new cars option was the obvious next step for us.”
