I have a higher risk being injured by my toilet (1:10000), dying from a bee sting (1:6000) or struck by lightening (1:3000).

And it seems even more likely while doing these simultaneously than that dreaded shark encounter.

So we have seen Mick Fannings footage with headlines of “shark attacks Mick Fanning”.

And yes, it’s pretty crazy that the global surfing fraternity witness first-hand this encounter during the final heat of the J-Bay Open.

So let’s be real here: It’s pretty surreal to watch. Yes, I was completely freaked out but did it stop me from an afternoon session at my local spot... heck no! And the weekend warriors in the line up were still out in full force.

I am no shark expert but can we really call it an attack? I don't know who seemed more startled by the event Mick or the Jonny...

Needless to say, if that were me I would probably dropped a few proverbial bricks.

But in the shark’s defence it merely seemed like it came in for a closer look, got tangled in Mick’s leash and tried to scurry away.

Sorry Mick, your chances of winning the lotto are now over!
