In the Franschhoek valley, Grande Provence is a destination designed to satisfy even the most persistent case of wanderlust.

Every detail  is aimed  to charm visitors.

Until the end of September Executive Chef Darren Badenhorst is offering a gourmet menu at a more affordable price.  Badenhorst stays true to his classic French training but manages to push the culinary envelope with his inventive and often unexpected twists courtesy of bold Asian flavours and his showcase of local ingredients.

SAVE THE DATE

What to eat

To get to know Chef Badenhorst, try one of his signature dishes of pancetta rolled saddle of rabbit– a variation of this dish saw Darren make it to the final seven South Africans to make the cut for the San Pellegrino Young Chef 2015 Top 10 finalists in Africa and the Middle East.

What to drink

Spare yourself the task of trolling through the wine list and leave decisions to Winemaker Karl Lambour and Sommelier Khuselo Maputa who have perfectly paired each dish on the winter menu.

When to go

The sooner the better, the giveaway set price will not last much longer past the chilly months.

Who to take

It’s the perfect spot for a romantic dinner but the gentle acoustics mean the restaurant can handle much rambunctious jolliness, so feel free to rustle up a group of your foodie friends and make a day of it.

What not to do

Try not to miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in old world luxury. Stay at The Owner’s Cottage and La Provençale guest house.

Whatever you do

Be sure to visit the art gallery, which launches the ‘Signature’ group exhibition next month pieces from 39 artists including Diane Victor, Clare Menck, Phillemon Hlungwani, Florian Wozniak and Jan Schutte.

How much do you need?

Lunch at R375 per person and dinner at R525 per person – wine an additional wine pairing option.

The verdict?

I shall return.
