The first thing that comes to mind when meeting the legendary Vusi Mahlasela is humility. The epitome of success, Mahlasela has mastered the art of using his life to live many more - wearing the hats of performer, story-teller and motivator.

As Mahlasela entertains an intimate crowd at an exclusive Remy Martin event in Durban, he imparts nuggets of wisdom throughout his performance.

Mahlasela's blend of afro-soul accompanied by a guitar has made him sought after on the global music scene. It is of little wonder then that Remy Martin has enlisted him to kick off their 'One Life, Live Them' campaign.

The inspirational campaign focuses on how people can embrace their 'slashes' or celebrate the many roles they play in their lives.

With Home Affairs spokesman Mayihlome Tshwete, Ludwick Marishane and Oros Mampofu at the helm of the campaign - Remy Martin seeks to drive home the point that you don't have to be limited. Instead like the Tshwete, Marishane, Mampofu and Mahlasela, achieving in all the roles you want to excel in is a very real possibility.

Tshwete is known for his role as a slick and smooth talking government spokesperson as well as a solid career in communications, he’s published poetry, is a political analyst, he paints and writes, and considers himself an idealist and activist for change.

Marishane, meanwhile, is known for his invention of Drybath®, the world’s first bath-substituting gel, while still in high school.

Today he heads up Headboy Industries – the business he formed to focus on inclusive impact innovation. He was named by Google as one of the world’s brightest minds in 2011 and is not only an incredible entrepreneur, but a philosopher and foodie too.

Mampofu is an actor that’s fast becoming a household name and who has his sights set high. Not content with landing dream roles in some of South Africa’s most popular TV shows, he dabbles in philosophy and quantum mechanics, and is an accomplished martial artist, specialising in MMA and Muay Thai.

For Mahlasela, realising that each person is unique and gifted is how he interprets the Remy Martin campaign.

"We are all individuals and we all have quite alot of gifts. That speaks to professionals and everyone living their passion. Its about coming together and celebarting our unique gifts. Simply put this is saying that as people we need to honour each other. Hence I was talking about the concept of ubuntu which is the distribution of morals, knowledge and skills.

"Its all about people with the know how even if academically they have never excelled but instead they have collected life skills which they can use to uplift others," he says.
