Female dance choreographers offered the chance to showcase their work

Three young female choreographers and one performance artist will be given the opportunity to create a new work of 20 to 30 minutes‚ which will be showcased during Sibikwa’s Dance Season at the Dance Factory in Newtown‚ Johannesburg‚ in October.

Female choreographers and performance artists between the ages of 20 and 35 are invited to apply for the new choreographic programme‚ Thunya Lerole."In 2016‚ the year we mark the 60th anniversary of the Women’s March to Pretoria‚ the Sibikwa Arts Centre is‚ in addition to its general target market‚ unashamedly focusing on young women and girls initiating special short skills vocational training and creating new plays relevant to and about girls and young woman. In its quest to always unearth and nurture young talent‚ Sibikwa’s Dance Season will empower young‚ female choreographers and performance artists by giving them the opportunity to create new work and showcase it at the Dance Factory‚" the company said in a statement.The call is for choreographers in these categories:Emerging artists: recent graduates of a tertiary training programme with a focus on dance‚ one to three years of professional practice and having presented work on at least one public platform;Young artists: graduates of a tertiary training programme with a focus on dance‚ three to five years of professional practice and having presented work on at least two public platforms;Established artists: over five years of professional practice and having presented work regularly on national public platformsPerformance artists: one to three years of professional practice and having presented work on at least three public platforms.Preference will be given to choreographers and performance artists who include female dancers in their ensemble.Submissions should be e-mailed to projects@sibikwa.co.za before Monday 15 August 2016. All entries will be adjudicated by a panel and decisions‚ which are final‚ will be available on 21 August 2016. Only successful applicants will be contacted. Presentation of the works will be on Saturday 22 October 2016 at the Dance Factory in Newtown...
