The Bedroom is an award-winning sensual boutique for women specialising in the art of pleasure, offering a journey of self- discovery and an opportunity to spice up one's sensual life. Couples are welcome to shop on weekends, should they prefer.

What do you stock?

A large selection of items ranging from delectable lingerie and bedroom wear to massage and erotic pamper ranges, including our own ranges, inspirational and educational books, erotic art, sensual accessories, novelty items, linen and adult playthings .

Tell us the story behind the name of the shop?

When the owners of The Bedroom in Umhlanga were starting the business, they went through options and after much deliberation one of the team said: "What about 'The Bedroom'?"

Why did you open the shop?

Having visited the shop in Umhlanga, I was awestruck and felt Gauteng desperately needed the same offering.

Who designed it?

The design is in keeping with the original boutique in Umhlanga. All The Bedroom boutiques are based on a franchise model.

Who are your customers?

Women of all ages, single and married, mothers, wives, couples, and even men . Anybody who wants to explore their sensual side.

What's your soundtrack in the shop?

Jazz, house, soul, funk, chillout, easy listening.

Where is it located?

In the heart of Parkhurst, corner 6th Street and 2nd Avenue.

What makes your shop unusual?

We're all about the wow factor. Our boutique is beautifully laid out to enable a sensual journey, and we treat each customer with care and discretion. The intention is to make the experience as comfortable as possible. We have a strong educational focus and are members of the South African Sexual Health Association. What are your plans for the shop?

We hope to become the industry leaders in this area.

What did you do before this?

I owned a guesthouse, have been an interior designer, dabbled in sales, advertising and marketing, in between being a mother and grandmother.
