David Tretheway couldn’t understand why his two-year-old daughter’s Pampers nappies were suddenly not keeping her dry at night, that is until he discovered a slightly older stash of Pampers and made a startling discovery.

He told Pampers’ manufacturer Procter & Gambles pooh poohs nappy complaints (P&G) on Facebook two weeks ago: “I noticed that you have decided to very quietly and sneakily cut 2cm from each of the wings within the nappy on all sizes.

“When we put her in the older nappies - she’s dry throughout the night.”

Tretheway also posted a photo of the old and new nappies, side by side.

Scores of other parents have since come forward with similar experiences.

P&G’s responses were also similar: “Please inbox message us with your issue along with your contact details so that our customer services can get in touch with you. Or contact us on: 086 011 2188”.

Asked to comment, a P&G spokesman told In Your Corner: “Parents are correct about the product redesign. This change was done around March 2015.

“We optimised the Pampers Active Baby-Drys  front “ears” and they are slightly narrower now. This change has been tested and confirmed on efficacy before going to market.”

Why those ears needed “optomising”, he didn’t say.

Tretheway says he’ll be forced to switch brands when his old stash of Pampers runs out.
