Volkswagen's slow selling Comfort Coupe (CC) has had an engine upgrade.

Last month VW sold only 35 CC vehicles, according to the latest Naamsa figures.

Motorists can now look forward to improved performance, less CO2emissions and better fuel consumption, says Andile Dlamini, VW brand PR manager.

The upgrade is on the 2.0 TDI, which is now offered with BlueMotion Technology. The 2.0 TDI 125kW engine has the start-stop system with energy recuperation.

As a result, the new claimed combined fuel consumption is 5.5 litres per 100km -144g/km of CO2(6.1 l/100km - 159g/km of CO2 in the previous engine).

The power output of the TSI engine has been increased to 155kW from 147kW.

It's claimed combined fuel consumption is now 7.3 litres per 100km - 171g/km of CO 2 for the 6-speed manual transmission (0.6 litres less than previous engine - 186g/km of CO 2 ).

With the 2.0 TSI 155kW (at 5300rpm-6200rpm) engine, the 0-100km sprint is 7.6 seconds for both manual and DSG transmissions.

The top speed has improved to 240km/h (manual) and 238km/h (DSG), Dlamini says.

The torque of the four-cylinder turbo-charged engine is still 280Nm and is available from 1700rpm to 5200rpm.
