Where did you spend your last holiday? Plettenberg Bay.
What was the best thing you did while there? I went to my favourite market on the way, Wild Oats Market in Sedgefield, for the best ever dolmades, farm butter, bunches of rhubarb and smoked mussels. I also visited the Fynboshoek Cheese Farm in Tsitsikamma. It's a piece of foodie heaven.
Your favourite city abroad and why? Sydney. I love Australia for its beautiful philosophy of food - fresh and simple.
What must a first-time visitor see there? Scrambled eggs at Bill's and the Sydney fish market.
What was your best holiday, ever? Summer in Maine. I ate so many bay scallop rolls.
Which is the worst hotel you have stayed in? One in Zanzibar that had army blankets.
What is the best thing you have been given on holiday . or pinched from a hotel? An ashtray from Le Grand Hotel in Paris with a little gold trim.
Who would be your fantasy holiday companion and why? Anthony Bourdain. He would take me to some exotic destinations and we would eat a hairy crab.
Your favourite SA destination and why? Prince Albert for the sunsets and fig farms.
What is the most exotic dish you have ever eaten on holiday? Shark lips in chilli and ginger at The Grange Hotel in Adelaide.
Have you had any embarrassing moments as a traveller? My last sneaky item was jamón from Spain. Luckily, the customs dog sniffed out my colleague's apple first and not my prized possession.
What do you avoid on holiday? Food shopping malls. I prefer to seek out markets and small producers. Our holidays seem to be decided around the availability of speciality foods.
What's your best piece of travel advice? I can't bear hand luggage, but always seem to have it. I just can't not pack a jar or two.
One travel destination you would call "never again"? Zanzibar.
