The driver got lost delivering these grapes from Koekenaap on the Olifants River to Spier in Stellenbosch and the journey took 28 hours - but the cargo was inside a refrigerated lorry, so no harm done. Linda Dobson in Newlands selected Joubert-Tradauw R62 syrah, R120

From Barrydale in the Little Karoo, this is my favourite Cape shiraz, with a smoky nose that blows off like the exhaust of a truck on the R62 to reveal sweet, red berries and plums with a generous dusting of spice.
