Pendock's Pick: This week's wine selection

Nov 29, 2009 12:00 AM | By Neil Pendock

Spier Organic sauvignon blanc 2009, R70.

Current Font Size:

The driver got lost delivering these grapes from Koekenaap on the Olifants River to Spier in Stellenbosch and the journey took 28 hours - but the cargo was inside a refrigerated lorry, so no harm done. Perhaps this is the reason for the piercing flavours of the wine or could it be that no pesticides were used? You taste and decide. Contact: 021-809-1143.

Reader's recommendation

Linda Dobson in Newlands selected Joubert-Tradauw R62 syrah, R120

From Barrydale in the Little Karoo, this is my favourite Cape shiraz, with a smoky nose that blows off like the exhaust of a truck on the R62 to reveal sweet, red berries and plums with a generous dusting of spice.

Dobson will receive a mixed case of Durbanville wines for her recommendation. Readers are invited to send their picks to wine@sundaytimes.co.za.
