Inside Malema's party
Times LIVE has exclusive audio from ANC Youth League president Julius Malema's boozy birthday bash in Polokwane this week.
During the 13-minute audio clip, Malema evoked the spirit of the late ANC Youth League president Peter Mokaba, singing the controversial struggle song "Dubula ibhunu" (which translated from the isiZulu means "shoot the boer").
Shortly before singing the struggle song, Malema chanted "Long live the spirit of Peter Mokaba, long live".
"Whatever you've read about me or the premier, that will never bring us down," Malema told his friends and supporters at the party.
"We are children of the poor. We'll always serve the poor. We'll always respect the poor," said Malema while party-goers were slamming back Johnnie Walker Gold whisky and expensive champagne.
Questions have been raised about the ANC Youth League president's high-roller lifestyle amid allegations that companies linked to him have benefited from lucrative government contracts in Limpopo.
Earlier, Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale declared his unwavering support for Malema.
"Hands off Julius Malema, hands off," said Mathale.
"We are here to dance and enjoy with the president. It is the president's birthday. He is one of us; he is part of us; and he is us," said the premier.
"They can talk as loud as they want. We will not backtrack from supporting the president of the youth league."
"An attack on Julius Malema is an attack on the Limpopo province."
