Mom, child health on AU agenda
President Jacob Zuma will lead a delegation to the African Union assembly in Kampala, Uganda, from Sunday.
Zuma will be accompanied by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, Public Services and Administration Minister Richard Baloyi, and Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Buyelwa Sonjica.
Today, Nkoana-Mashabane will lead the delegation at the start of the 17th ordinary session of the AU executive council.
The summit's theme, maternal, infant and child health and development in Africa, was in line with South Africa's commitment to work towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals, which included promoting maternal and child health in Africa, Mashabane's department said.
The theme demonstrated the continent's commitment to accelerating a reduction in maternal and child mortality.
In this regard, Zuma would be supported by Motsoaledi during the discussion on the theme on the first day of the three-day summit, the department said.
