The Soweto hospital nurse who went to work on Friday night only to end up in an intensive care unit after being assaulted, allegedly by her striking colleagues, is in a stable condition.

Gauteng health MEC Qedani Mahlangu visited Lynette Dube yesterday at Johannesburg's private Milpark Hospital, where she is recovering.

Mahlangu said: "It is really sad that employees who care have their rights violated."

Dube was attacked outside Chris Hani-Baragwanath Hospital on Friday night and sustained serious head and neck injuries.

Mahlangu described Dube as a "very dedicated and committed government employee".

Mahlangu said Dube's family did not want to speak to media.

No one has been arrested in connection with the attack on the nurse.
