The IFP leader in the KwaZulu-Natal legislature, Dr Bonginkosi Buthelezi, has resigned.
“I can confirm that I have resigned for personal reasons. I want to pursue my medical career,” said Buthelezi on Wednesday afternoon.
Buthelezi, who was also Inkatha Freedom Party provincial secretary, said he wanted to work as a medical doctor, adding that there were many options available for him.
IFP president Mangosuthu Buthelezi said he had heard rumours that Buthelezi had been lured by the African National Congress provincial government.
“I have heard several rumours indicating that Dr Buthelezi has been lured into taking up a top position in the KwaZulu-Natal department of health, by the ANC-led government in the province,” said the IFP president.
But Buthelezi refused to comment on his national leader’s claims.
“I am not going to comment on what he (IFP president) has just said because I will remain a member of the IFP. I don’t want to use the media to discuss this issue,” he said.
He said one of the options available for him was to open his surgery or to join the state.
