Info bill off National Assembly order paper
The Protection of Information Bill has been taken off the order paper for Tuesday's meeting of the National Assembly.
"We note that despite extensive consultations and improvements effected on the basis of submissions from stake-holders there are still interested parties who need further hearing," ANC chief whip Mathole Motshekga said.
"The ANC is of the view that these voices should be heard, and thus the ANC caucus has therefore decided not to table the bill tomorrow. Further consultations should continue on the bill," Motshekga said.
"Further discussion internally and with other political parties and engaging views from the broader society. Given the diverse nature of our society it is rare for laws to be a product of unanimous agreement however it is our responsibility as the ruling party to continue leading the process."
