A journalist collapsed the ANC's Limpopo provincial elective conference, two days after he was hit with a brick, allegedly by the party's youth league members.
Limpopo-based freelancer Chester Makana collapsed on Monday as journalists interviewed newly elected provincial secretary Soviet Lekganyane at the University of Limpopo's Turfloop campus near Polokwane.
Makana was assaulted on Saturday when he went to investigate allegations of duplicate voting tags being printed at a photocopying shop, shortly before delegates picked their top five leaders.
He was hit with a brick on the head as two men, one of whom he said he could identify, stormed out of the printers on Thabo Mbeki Road, Polokwane, as he was taking pictures.
"They came out and asked why I was taking pictures. Then they started attacking me. It was bad," Makana, whose bruised head was evidence of the attack, told Sapa.
Makana, who was attended to and taken to hospital by paramedics, said the two men grabbed his camera and destroyed his memory card before chasing him. He then went to a police station to open a case against his attackers.
Makana posed two questions to Lekganyane on Monday, who told him to "use an intelligent choice of words".
Journalists went running for water and paramedics when Makana fell.
Police confirmed a case of assault and malicious damage to property was registered at a local police station.
