The National Lotteries Board chairman has welcomed calls for a forensic audit of grants made by the NLB during the past three years, but said those calling for it should pay for it.

"If people want to audit, they do so on their own," board chairman Professor Alfred Nevhutanda said.

Non-profit organisations are demanding that grants made by the NLB during the past three years be subjected to a forensic audit and that board members be subjected to a lifestyle audit.

The demands are contained in a memorandum, which is due to be handed to the NLB when representatives of non-profit organisations are expected to march on its offices on January 27.

Nevhutanda said the NLB's books were audited by the Auditor General, approved by Parliament and available on the NLB website.

On Monday Auditor General Terence Nombembe released the 2010/11 General Report on National Audit Outcomes. According to the report both the NLB and the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund received unqualified audits, but with findings.

For the NLB, the AG had concerns about compliance expenditure management, internal audit controls, procurement and management contracts.
