Several stores at the Greenacres mall in Port Elizabeth were damaged when a fire broke out on Thursday morning, the mall's management said.

"Greenacres centre management can confirm that around 3am this morning a fire broke out in the House and Home store," it said in a statement.

"The fire department were immediately called to the scene and are still on site."

No one was injured. House and Home, Checkers and several other stores were closed on Thursday due to smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire was not known, but investigations were underway.
