Zille-Zuma poster causes social media stir

Sapa | 02 February, 2012 10:28

A spoof advert showing puppets of President Jacob Zuma and Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille in a passionate clinch is the latest mock of the opposition party's youth poster campaign to cause a stir on social network sites.

The poster on comedy show ZANews's Facebook page shows the two staring lovingly into each other's eyes with Zille's hand stroking Zuma's neck.

It carries the slogan, “In our future, you wouldn't give a shit".

The mock ad comes after the launch of a campaign by the DA youth showing a black woman and a white man in an intimate embrace.

That poster's slogan read: “In our future you wouldn't look twice”.

The DA youth's campaign was criticised by the Christian Democratic Party, which called it "shocking".

Since the launch of its campaign mock images have appeared across social networking sites showing illustrations that include dogs hugging cats, black horses mounting white horses and lingerie-wearing white domestic workers scrubbing floors.

ZANews released the mock poster on its Facebook page with the message: “So the DA cubs are enjoying our take on their lousy poster? Wait till we take these to the next level.”

Zille said on Twitter that she appreciated the ZANews poster.

“Had a good laugh," she wrote.

“It gave me a good laugh to start the day.”

The poster has attracted dozens of comments and hundreds of “likes”.

"Lol It serve [sic] DA right, be careful what you wish for," one Facebook user wrote.
