Mathale's election to come under scrutiny

Cassel Mathale's leadership of the ANC in Limpopo will come under scrutiny at the ANC national executive committee meeting this weekend.

The committee will discuss allegations that Mathale and his allies in Limpopo stole votes at the provincial conference held in December.

President Jacob Zuma will give a political overview at the four-day meeting, which started yesterday in Pretoria.

The Times understands that national executive committee members who attended the conference have compiled a damning report on the activities of Mathale and his allies.

Mathale and his allies won the elections for all the top positions at the conference. Soviet Lekganyane took over as provincial secretary and suspended ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema was nominated for membership of the party's provincial executive committee.

The report was compiled by party whip Mathole Motshekga.

Members from Vhembe and Waterberg have also sent reports ANC secretary-general to Gwede Mantashe.

They claimed that the number of voters at the conference was more than the number of conference delegates, 1137.

When national executive committee member Dina Pule announced the results of the chairman's election, she said that 19 people had abstained from voting, there were seven spoilt ballots and 1120 valid voted.

This means the total number of people who voted was 1146.

The report revealed that some people were allowed into the conference with fake accreditation cards.

The members said that all genuine accreditation cards had bar codes and pictures of the holder but the fake cards did not.

They called on the national executive committee to disband Mathale's ANC provincial executive committee, but there is a general feeling among the ANC's national leadership that that would lead to further divisions in th ANC in Limpopo.

The Times has been told that Mathale and his provincial leadership met ANC leaders on Tuesday, including President Jacob Zuma, his deputy, Kgalema Motlanthe, and Mantashe.

But The Times could not establish if the report was discussed at the meeting.

Zuma normally uses his political overview speech to emphasis unity in the organisation.

He is expected to speak on that and the importance of ANC executive members leading in the branches during the discussions of policy documents.

The meeting will receive presentations of policy documents from sub-committee members. The documents must be released for branches for discussion this month in preparation for the policy conference to be held in June.

The meeting will not discuss Malema's appeal, which is before the ANC national appeals committee.

Malema was not present at the start of the meeting yesterday.

It is expected that the committee, chaired by Ramaphosa, will uphold the ANC national disciplinary committee decision that Malema be suspended from the ANC for five years.

Everybody knew they were rigging the votes. The ANCYL even went to print illegal registration cards. Remember how they assaulted the reporter taking photographs. The ting is that it is an African trade mark. Rigging elections is second nature in Africa.

Mr Editor, are you also one of us? I thought you monitor our behaviour as bloggers. It seems to me you are now acting the 'player & referee' role.

Yeah, most comrades find it very difficult if not impossible to resist the temptation...

It seems like the Limpopo is run by trough-feeders and cattle herders?

if this doesn't stop, the comment will be removed and you will be banned. ED

So finally south africa is part of zimbabwe -------

I never thougth that NEWS 24 would want to ban free expression. Kill off debate. Do as I say. Who's your daddy. Stop the press. Staan op sy kop. Gulag. Saltmines. YOU SHUTUP KAPISH. Yes Baas Sorry Baas moet my nie net nie slaan nie. Only NEWS 24 can see racism in a blog were no mention was made about any race.

1: We are not News 24. We are the Times LIVE. News 24 is one of our major competitors.

2: Not being allowed to post a racist comment on a news website is not quite the same thing as being threatened with being sent to the salt mines or a gulag.

3: You are free to post whatever you like on your own webite. This is not your own website. We grant a lot of leeway, but we try not to let it get to the point of a racist flamewar. Evidently two seperate websites have told you to stop it. That should tell you something - ED
