The
man, who arrived in Nquthu in KwaZulu-Natal last week claiming that
he was living with zombies, was taken into custody following a recommendation
by police that the case needed a criminal investigation.
“The arrest follows
developments yesterday when the man made his first public appearance at Nquthu.
Detectives conducting the enquiry were convinced that the matter required criminal
investigation and a docket was registered at Dundee SAPS where the man is
currently in custody pending the criminal investigation. Detectives have been
questioning the man this morning and are conducting further investigation,” KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman
Colonel Jay Naicker said.
Mseleku died in 2009 on
his way to see a traditional healer. He was buried in a high-profile funeral in
early 2010.
On Sunday the man called
for the body to be exhumed to prove that he was Khumalo.
The man claimed that he
was held captive in a cave and that the zombies had forced him to apply for an
identity document in another name.
