Unanswered questions in Soweto teen killing: IDC
There were several policemen in the vicinity where a Soweto teenager was shot dead, allegedly by a student policeman, the Independent Complaints Directorate said on Friday.
"As our investigation progresses so more information is coming to light," ICD spokesman Moses Dlamini said.
"If this was a raid by the police, then where was the supervisor?" he said.
These were questions that needed answers so that, in the event of an arrest, the ICD had sufficient proof to guarantee a conviction in court.
"There are a lot of unanswered questions," Dlamini said.
Investigators found seven gun cartridges at the scene where 16-year-old Thato Mokoka died on Tuesday.
He had been shot three times apparently while lying on the ground on his stomach. The incident happened outside the home of his grandmother Sybil Mokoka in Braamfischerville Phase Two.
The boy apparently lived alone in a shack at the back of the property.
A senior delegation from the ICD would visit the scene and pay their respects to the teen's family on Friday.
