Former police commissioner Jackie Selebi was discharged from hospital this week and transferred to the Pretoria Central Prison, according to a report on Saturday.

The Weekend Argus newspaper reported that Selebi was moved from the nephrology unit at Steve Biko Academic Hospital to a cell within the prison's hospital unit.

Selebi collapsed at home in Waterkloof, Pretoria, in December and was admitted to hospital after losing his appeal against a corruption conviction in the Supreme Court of Appeal last year.

The appeal outcome meant he had to begin a 15-year jail sentence for corruption.

The deputy commissioner of correctional services, Zachary Modise, said Selebi would be monitored closely by two trained nurses.

Selebi had also been trained to administer his own treatment. He suffered from diabetes and kidney disease.

The media is merely keeping us up to date on how the system operates and what we should look out for.

Can't blame the media. If it weren't for them he might already have been sent home. Which would be SO unfair to many others in the same position and our expectation of fair treatment for all by the penal system.

Praise the media!

Selebi won't get medical parole, to close to election time. When the ambulance took him away from home he certainly did not look sick, the start of the fake..... I see Dewani is also onto the fake illness.

He will be out soon. If it's the last thing that Zuma does before his term is up, it will be to give Shaik, selebi and Cele a pardon! Don't fool yourselves, Selebi has that debilitating/life threatening illness that comes about just before you realise your goose is cooked!

Sadly yes, a nation not made by nature to be able to build up a civilized, economic and intelligent structure for it's people will always be taking in their tribal, preadtory way, without a civilized care. Only the media is protesting, not their kind. For all the anc cares it's blacks can do as much crime and corruption as they want, as long it's not against it's fatcats, swollen rich from looting the taxpayer's money. Everyone heard mandela's cry of "stop the violence" a few years back. Of course that was only in fear of the violence coming to him and his cronies. The violence, looting and crime against others hasn't stopped and never will.
