An official at One Military hospital in Pretoria has denied that former president Nelson Mandela was admitted there on Saturday.
"I have been asked to instruct you to leave here. My manager said to tell you that the old man [Madiba] is not here. That's why you are here, isn't it?" he told journalists and photographers gathered outside the hospital.
The official was accompanied by three military police officials in a van.
Presidency spokesman Mac Maharaj said earlier in the day: "President Jacob Zuma wishes to advise that... Mandela was admitted to hospital today, 25 February 2012.
"Madiba has had a long-standing abdominal complaint and doctors feel it needs proper specialist medical attention."
Maharaj did not say which hospital the statesman had been admitted to.
