Police arrested two suspected robbers at a road block in Soweto when they found cash boxes from a security company in the boot of their car and unlicensed guns, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the car was stopped in Bram Fischer as part of a routine inspection of vehicles.

"There were five men in the car but when they saw the police three of them ran away," he said.

Two were cornered and arrested.

When police searched the vehicle they found the boxes and contacted G4, the security company identified on the sealed boxes.

"We think these men were on their way home from a robbery," said Makhubela.

"We don't know how much is in the boxes or where they come from."

The security company has been contacted to identify the boxes.

The arrested men, aged 26 and 27, are to appear in Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
